If you open Instagram at any given time, you’ll find at least one story where someone’s doing their makeup in the backseat of a car. Why would you need to do your makeup in a car, you ask? So you can sleep longer, wash your hair, watch another episode of Barefoot Contessa, organize the contents of your fridge alphabetically, the list goes on and on. It just saves a lot of time, okay?
It’s oddly mesmerizing to watch, and believe it or not, it’s actually way easier than you’d think. We’ve compiled all the products you need to pull off a face beat in the backseat in the most efficient and least screw up-able way. Browse the gallery below for a list of products that were basically made for a moving vehicle.
How to do your makeup in an Uber
1. Get thee a new phone case
Sure, you could use your front-facing camera, but the lighting sucks. Option 1: Get yourself a mirrored phone case and flip it around, if you DGAF about capturing your artistic process on the ‘gram. Option 2: Get a Lumee, the light-up phone case that the Kardashians made famous.

2. Stick to…sticks
Do not lug around a bottle of foundation and try to use it in the backseat of your Uber. Your driver will be side-eyeing you the whole time and you will definitely lower your rating. Not worth it! Instead find your fave in stick form and go to town.

3. Let go of the dream of applying liquid liner
This is not the time or place for winged liner. It’s your waterline’s time to shine. After years of taking the backseat (hehe) to liquid liner, lining your waterline is having a real moment. The best way to achieve this look in a moving car without stabbing your eyeball is to use a thick Kajal liner. The ultra-pigmented product originates in the Middle East, where it was traditionally made of natural ingredients and soot. These days, you can find Kajal influences in most brands.
The important thing here is that you don’t need to be precise. Just place the tip on your upper and lower waterlines and let it glide. Now take a break to watch some Instagram stories because a) you worked hard and you deserve it and b) you need to blink a bunch to allow the liner to smudge and do its thing.

4. Accept multi-use products in your life
Okay, this step is important. Use one product for lipstick, eyeshadow and blush, because monochromatic makeup is totally chic, and also because your trip’s probably almost over so you should really speed things up. Also you haven’t spoken to your driver in a while so have some manners and ask how their day is going. They’ll appreciate it.
Great. Now, cream blushes are great because they’re super easy to use and incredibly versatile. So grab some with your fingers, warm up the product, and rub it into the apples of your cheeks. Blush? Done. Now tap some onto your cheekbones and eyelids. M.A.C’s cream blushes have a very pretty sheen to them so they can also act as a highlighter. And finally, rub some onto your lips for a bit of shine and colour.

5. Time to figure out the hairs on your face
You’re probably killing it thus far so at this point you should expect a compliment about your steady hands from your driver. Now you can move onto the last step: mascara. The best one for backseat face beat is Too Cool For School’s Dinoplatz Escalator Mascara. Why? Because you can adjust the size of the brush. Use it at full length for mascara, and then retract it to its smallest size and brush it through your brows.
And just like that, you’ve done your makeup in a moving vehicle. Magnifique.
