And while these issues still exist, the Olympic fever is palpable through our screens—pride, excitement and plain old love is what it’s all about. It’s no secret that our Canadian women are slaying in the pool, on the field and beyond. Take a look at our fave Olympic moments from Week 1.

Swimmer Penny Oleksiak wins gold in the 100-metre freestyle and almost gulps down a mouthful of pool water because she’s so surprised. Tears ran down faces and people jumped out of chairs everywhere.

Toronto’s Rosie MacLennan bounced her way to first place—she also won a gold in trampoline at the London 2012 Olympics. Respect.

OK, so it’s not Team Canada per se, but our athletes had to jump into this murky green water, which was a serious topic of convo this week. A second pool used for synchronized swimming and water polo might be affected, too.
