Inside Nordstrom’s opening night in Vancouver: Coco Rocha, Camilla Belle and more!
Vancouver isn’t the first, but she’s arguably the grandest as far as Canadian Nordstrom openings go.
The 114-year-old, Seattle-born retailer celebrated its new 230,000-square-foot, north of the border flagship with a sold-out fashion show and gala benefitting BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, BC Women’s Hospital and Health Centre Foundation, Covenant House Vancouver and the Vancouver Art Gallery to the tune of $420,000.
The guest list wasn’t too shabby either. Among the 2,250 attendees, there were supermodels (Amber Valetta, Coco Rocha, Karolina Kurkova), actors (Zachary Quinto, Camilla Belle) and head honchos (Blake Nordstrom, Pete Nordstrom, Erik Nordstrom, Jamie Nordstrom). Take a breath, there’s more. International editor-at-large Hamish Bowles and West Coast director Lisa Love gave the soiree its Vogue quotient. Amongst the local notables Love It or List It Vancouver host Jillian Harris, Global BC news director Jill Krop and CTV News anchor Tamara Taggart, all also wearing their gala co-chair caps.
Across the street, a New York Fashion Week-worthy runway show started the evening. Under a tent in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery, 38 models walked in 85 looks spanning a dictionary of designer labels, from Alexander McQueen to Zac Posen. Guests then migrated to the three-storey store to shop, sip and shake a tail feather to live entertainment by Toronto’s Sean Jones. Cocktail and canapé booths could be found on nearly every corner, so there was no fighting over mini burgers or cans of Sofia Blanc de Blancs, nor Manolo Blahnik shoes, as those too were in healthy supply.
