Is Sade Working on a New Album?
Sade’s not the most prolific of music bands. The famed R&B group, led by Nigerian-British singer Sade Adu, debuted their first album back in 1984 and the gap between every subsequent album has only widened over the years. Observe: their second album came just a year later (1985), the next one three years later (1988), then it was a four-year gap (1992), which became eight years (2000), and then 10 (2010). If this pattern were to continue, the group’s next album wouldn’t drop until at least 2021. But since this pattern isn’t actually a real thing, and just something I happened to notice when looking through the band’s discography, you’ll be glad to know a new Sade album is, in fact, in the works.
Longtime Sade collaborator Stuart Matthewman just revealed that they’re “working on a new album.” Of their lead singer he says, “[She’s] not interested in the fame or any of that [other] stuff. She likes to put out art. So when it’s ready, it will come out.” It might not be as frequent as fans would hope, but they respect the process nonetheless. “Years ago, I think it was when ‘By Your Side,’ the song came out, and big posters were stuck around New York,” Matthewman recalled. “Someone sprayed or wrote on top of it, ‘Bitch sings when she wants to.’ Sade loved it.”
No one puts Sade on a schedule. And we’re totally okay with that.
