Jennifer Lopez is the New Global Face of Coach
Jennifer Lopez has a lot going on: Oscar buzz for her latest role in the film Hustlers, an impending wedding with Alex Rodriguez, an upcoming performance at the Super Bowl and now, a deal with Coach as the brand’s newest ambassador. Taking to Instagram to share the news, which Coach announced this morning, Lopez said, simply: “Thank you @coach! Exciting things coming soon!!!?”
Coach x JLo will debut with the house’s Spring 2020 campaign, showing off the classic wares of the New York-based brand: leather goods, ready-to-wear apparel and footwear. In a statement to WWD, Lopez said, “I’m so excited for this collaboration with Coach. It is a timeless brand that I’ve always been a fan of and the upcoming collection really speaks to my personal style—an uptown/downtown mix.”
The newest face of Coach is clearly a certified long-time fan, with ties to the brand going back nearly 20 years. Back in November 2002, Lopez used Coach Signature bags in the music video for her hit single All I Have. As Lopez joins the Coach family, there has been no update on the brand’s partnership with Selena Gomez, who has been a face of the brand’s womenswear since 2016. However, we do know that Michael B. Jordan will remain the face of Coach’s menswear line.
The first look at JLo’s inaugural campaign with Coach is a black-and-white image released on Instagram, showing Lopez in an outfit similar to what model Anok Yai wore in the Coach Spring 2020 RTW show. A double-breasted leather trench coat belted over a patterned blouse takes centre-stage, with the chainlink strap of a handbag just barely visible in the frame.
“Jennifer is so authentic,” creative director of Coach, Stuart Vevers, said. “She’s determined and she’s an original who has followed her own path to do things her own way—she really embodies the attitude of Coach and our new campaign… She’s from New York, like Coach, which creates another authentic connection with our heritage.”
