Justin Bieber Admits to Heavy Drug Use and Being Disrespectful to Women in Candid Instagram Post
Justin Bieber’s bad years are well-documented. And now, the Canadian musician has addressed those dark days in a lengthy Instagram post.
Sharing a note to his 118.2 million followers, Justin described how becoming a star at such an early age (he was 13 when he got his big break) had a profound impact on his decision-making and ego. “As my talent progressed and I became ultra successful, it happened within [the space of] two years. My whole world was flipped on its head. I went from a 13 year old boy from a small town to being praised left and right by the world with millions stating how much they loved me and how great I was,” he wrote. “Humility comes with age. You hear these things enough as a young boy and you actually start believing it. Rationality comes with age and so does your decision making process…everyone did everything for me so I never even learned the fundamentals of responsibility. So by this point I was 18 with no skills in the real world, with millions of dollars and access to whatever I wanted.”
Bieber describes the situation as “a very scary concept” and writes that by 20 he had made “every bad decision” possible, adding that he “went from one of the most loved and adored people in the world to the most ridiculed, judged and hate person in the world.”
This shift, he says, led to him “doing pretty hard drugs at 19”. He confessed that, at the same time, he was abusing all of his relationships. “I became resentful, disrespectful to women, and angry. I became distant to everyone who loved me, and I was hiding behind a shell of a person that I had become.”
The post ends with the Boyfriend singer acknowledging his change of attitude and the new season of his life. He says, “It’s taken me years to bounce back from all of these terrible decisions, fix broken relationships and change relationship habits. Luckily God blessed me with extraordinary people who love me for me. Now I am navigating the best season of my life: ‘Marriage’!!”
Justin married Hailey Baldwin in early September 2018, and writes that it is “an amazing crazy new responsibility” adding that it’s taught him “patience, trust, commitment, kindness, humility and all of the thing it looks like to be a good man.”
