After three weeks of straight up Kate stalking, it’s nice to know the Duchess of Cambridge can still surprise and delight. On the final night of the Royal Tour, Kate did the black-and-white trend perfectly, wearing Texan-born designer Lela Rose for the first time. Pairing the airy white peplum dress alongside black accessories (suede Jimmy Choo Cosmic pumps and Mulberry Bayswater clutch, check!) is a new thing for the Duchess and pretty modern when you think about it—it wasn’t too long ago that dark accessories were considered a no-go with white dresses. The circular lace trim is also a step away from the typical, providing a peekaboo effect for Kate’s mega-toned upper arms. The black-tie reception was given the Governor-General in honour of the Royals and, capping a day of sightseeing in Canberra.
Amongst the sights, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the city’s National Portrait Gallery and the National Arboretum, where they planted an English oak tree alongside two insanely cute little boys. Later, Kate played with some local children in the playground cause omg she’s perfect. For the day, Kate chose a vibrant green bespoke coatdress by Brit designer Catherine Walker. The dress, modified from the existing Evelyn look, is simply, streamlined and totally works alongside emerald and diamond drop earrings and L.K. Bennett’s nude Sledge pumps.
The Royal Trip wraps tomorrow, but we expect one more dose of pageantry upon the Duke and Duchess’s exit. Stay tuned!
