Kate Middleton Shines in Block Colours on First Day of Royal Tour
Overnight, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge landed in Islamabad to begin their five-day tour of Pakistan. With a packed schedule ahead of them, the pair wasted no time getting straight into their planned engagements. And engagements = stellar outfits, as we all well know by now.
Landing in the capital, Kate wore a custom, aqua-hued two-piece set – inspired by the traditional shalwar kameez – by British designer Catherine Walker paired with nude heels. In a touching tribute, the ensemble was strikingly similar to one worn by Princess Diana during one of her trips to the country.
This morning, the pair visited the Islamabad Model College for Girls, where Kate wore a gorgeous blue kurta by local designer Maheen Khan. During the visit, one of the students told the pair that she was a big fan of Princess Diana, to which William replied, “I was a big fan of my mother too.” This visit was followed by a stop at Margalla Hills during which the pair took part “in activities designed to educate young people on environmental protection and wildlife conservation,” according to their official Instagram account.
The trip is particularly significant to William as his late mother travelled to the country three times during her life. She was good friends with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, with whom William and Kate also met today. For this outing, Kate opted for a bright green tunic dress (by Catherine Walker) with white trousers (by Maheen Khan).
Finally, the pair ended their busy first day by attending a reception held by the British High Commissioner, Thomas Drew, at the Pakistan Monument. Arriving in a tuk tuk, both Kate and William shone in green outfits: Kate, in a floor-length glittering gown by Jenny Packham and William in a traditional sherwani by Naushemian. The colour is particularly significant given that it represents the country’s green flag.
Little else is known about the Cambridge’s upcoming events as details are being kept under wraps until the day for security reasons, as per royal protocol. Kensington Palace described this trip as the “most complex” the pair has taken to date. Stay tuned for more updates from the royal tour.
