Kate Middleton wears custom Alexander McQueen and Jenny Packham on day 3 of the royal tour in Southeast Asia

It’s day three of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s tour of Southeast Asia and they’ve moved on from Singapore and headed north to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Before departing they spent the morning at the Kranji War Cemetery, paying respects to British and Commonwealth soldiers who lost their lives defending Singapore during World War II. Kate Middleton carried a parasol to offer some shelter from the sun (it was a balmy 30 degrees out!) and we have to say, when paired with that pleated Jenny Packham dress she had quite the ’40s aesthetic going on. The dress—described as “duck egg-blue” by the palace—is apparently a custom design for Kate Middleton and features lace detailing on the top.
We’ll guess that one of the reasons Jenny Packham is a favourite of the Duchess is because her designs are so comfortable to wear: there was no time for a wardrobe change after their plane landed in Kuala Lumpur. Prince William and Kate Middleton immediately met with the Prime Minister of Malaysia (side note: do you think they’ve ever watched Zoolander?) and then headed to Hospis Malaysia where Kate made her first international speech. We’ll consider this further proof that her trusty L.K. Bennett “Sledge” shoes are easy to walk in, as she also wore them the entire time.
A wardrobe change did happen before dinner at the residence of His Majesty The Agong and, like we saw earlier in this tour, it seems Kate Middleton had the dress custom made for the occasion. The cream and gold Alexander McQueen gown she wore was decorated with Malaysian hibiscus flowers and its style certainly complemented the embroidered, flowing dresses and saris that the other guests were wearing. Kate paired a gold Wilbur and Gussie clutch with the dress and wore open-toed heels. And, just for an update to yesterday’s water versus wine watch: it seems that Kate Middleton has a completely legit reason to avoid alcohol for the rest of this tour. Drinking is extremely uncommon in Malaysia and the couple’s next stop—the Solomon Islands—is traditionally opposed to women drinking. Will and Kate: 1. Bump-watch enthousiasts: 0.
