Kate Middleton wears shimmering silver Jenny Packham on the red carpet
After a jam-packed week of red carpets in Toronto, we thought that gala event fatigue was setting in. But leave it to Kate Middleton to shake things up: yesterday she attended the Tusk Conservation Awards in a shimmering Jenny Packham gown that would have been right at home on the TIFF red carpet. It was Will and Kate’s first evening out together since the birth of Prince George and the little royal got a shout out when his father spoke during the event: “’Catherine and I have recently become proud parents of a baby who has a voice to match any lion’s roar. This is our first evening out without him… please excuse us if you see us nervously casting surreptitious glances at mobiles.”
Adorable! But let’s get back to what Kate was wearing. While it’s known that the sequin-studded dress is Jenny Packham, die-hard Middleton fans have been debating which collection it’s actually from. It’s very similar to a design from Packham’s diffusion line, No.1 By Jenny Packham For Debenhams, that was recently on sale for £180, making it a very affordable choice. US Weekly, however, claims that the metallic dress is a custom creation and cost around $6,000. (A big ticket item, even for a royal.) Keeping with the glittery theme, Kate paired the dress with her silver Jimmy Choo heeled sandals and a diamond bracelet. Providing a bit of a cool edge to the whole look was her hair. Duchess naysayers, hear me out: Kept down in her signature glossy curls, the loose style was an ideal choice over a stuffy updo and suited the sequined look well.
