Kate Spade New York Donates $1M to Suicide Prevention
Following the tragic death of designer Kate Spade, the Kate Spade New York brand announced today that they’ll be donating $1 million to support various mental health causes, including suicide prevention.
To start, the company has donated $250,000 to the Crisis Text Line and will match all donations made to the organization from June 20-29, up to $100,000. As of this morning, over $7,900 had already been raised.
“The outpouring of love on social media and in our shops from customers of all ages has been overwhelming and moving, it is such a beautiful reflection of how much Kate was loved, ” says Anne Bakst, brand president and CEO of Kate Spade New York. “Mental health does not discriminate; it is complicated and difficult to diagnose and can be threatening. We hope that our support will shed even more light on the disease and encourage those who suffer from mental health issues to seek help.” Additionally, the brand will hold a Global Mental Health Awareness Day for employees in both corporate and regional offices, under their Wellness Program. They hope to increase awareness of mental health, as well as encourage necessary treatments for those who are in need.
Spade’s funeral is set to take place this week in her hometown of Kansas City, Mo.
“Collectively, we must all do more,” says Bakst.
