Is there a bigger bridal brand than Kleinfeld? Last night, to celebrate the Say Yes To The Dress juggernaut’s debut at Hudson’s Bay in Toronto, a lavish cocktail party took over all 20,000 square feet of the just-opened bridal salon. The space, with white-washed floors and vaulted ceiling could easily pass as a wedding venue itself (there’s even a small patio space for post-saying-yes cocktails!)—save for the dozens of dresses lining the walls. But what’s on display is just a sample of how much Kleinfeld has to offer: behind the scenes, there’s over 600 gowns to choose from, with more than 50 brands on the roster.
At last night’s launch, it was easy to spot fans of the show, as they were gathered around the dresses that have reached a sort of cult status on SYTTD. (Pnina Tornai corset dress, anyone?) But also on display were designs new to Kleinfeld, including gowns created in collaboration with go-to Canadian designers such as Greta Constantine and David Dixon. While models played the role of brides-to-be at the party, that didn’t stop curious guests (engaged or not) from Instagramming and Snapchatting top looks—albeit off-figure.
The launch of Kleinfeld at Hudson’s Bay also cements the Queen Street store’s 7th floor as a sort of one-stop-shop for brides. Inside the salon, offerings go beyond dresses, with bridesmaids gowns, shoes, jewellery—including stunning, Kate Middleton-worthy headpieces by Shay Lowe—and lingerie. Outside the salon, it’s wedding registry central, with Hudson’s Bay housewares, a mini Maison Birks stand-alone shop and a bridal concierge to help with the planning process. The only miss at last night’s event? That there wasn’t an actual proposal happening in the midst. But given how picture-perfect the space is, we suspect it’s just a matter of time.
