Louis Vuitton Takes Its Cruise 2018 Collection to Japan
The fashion month marathon kicks off in a few weeks, but we’re already hearing important details about the Cruise 2018 collections (fashion never sleeps). As fabulous as fashion month is, it hardly compares to the far flung Cruise shows planned by luxury brands like Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton who have been whisking the fashion flock to glam locales. In past seasons, Louis Vuitton debuted its Cruise collections in hot spots like Monaco, Palm Springs and Rio de Janeiro. This year’s location? Japan.
Given Vuitton’s history and close ties to Japan, from opening the first Tokyo boutique in 1978 to collaborating with world-renowned Japanese artists and designers including Takashi Murakami, Yayoi Kusama, and Rei Kawakubo, we’re wondering why they hadn’t shown there sooner. And how can we forget the Spring 2016 ad campaign featuring Final Fantasy’s kick-ass female fighter, Lightning. Clearly, it was only a matter of time before Nicholas Ghesquière brought his show to the eccentric, buzzy country.
The fashion show doesn’t take place until May 14th, but we’re already dreaming up what the Cruise 2018 collection is going to entail. Anime-inspired hair and makeup? Bags in all the colours of the rainbow? Futuristic dresses? Only time will tell.
