LVMH and Kering Launch a Wellness Website for Models
Fashion Giants LVMH and Kering have come together to launch WeCareForModels.com, a health and wellness website for models.
Back in September, the two parent companies behind Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Loewe, Marc Jacobs, Céline, Givenchy and Fendi (LVMH); as well as Gucci, Balenciaga, Saint Laurent, Bottega Veneta, Alexander McQueen and Stella McCartney (Kering) joined forces to create a charter that would protect models in the workplace.
Now LVMH and Kering are taking it one step forward, with the launch of a website built to support models by providing health and wellness tips on how to cope with the high levels of stress they face in the industry.
In December 2016 casting director James Scully talked about the bullying and abuse models face during a Business of Fashion’s VOICES conference. He then took to Instagram to elaborate on incidents that can take place at castings.
More recently fashion photographers Bruce Weber, Mario Testino, Patrick Demarchelier and stylist Karl Templer have been accused of sexual misconduct on the job.
This is a big and important move for the fashion industry to go on record as saying it wants to be more transparent with, and supportive of model talent. The website also shared statements of support from industry veterans like Dior artistic director Maria Grazia Chiuri and executive Pietro Beccari, Gucci chief executive Marco Bizzarri, and designer Stella McCartney.
“It is fundamental in the fashion industry that we treat models with respect,” said Stella McCartney in a statement on the website. “The reality is that everybody that is a part of this community has to be accountable, we have to work together as a team, and that includes the houses, the designers, the business people, the agencies, the models themselves and the families that support them.”
“We as an entire community working in the fashion industry must be responsible on every level to look out for each other and keep each other safe,” she added while emphasizing the importance of coming together.
Though this is just the beginning of change in the fashion industry, we’re excited to see more transparency and positive changes in fashion moving forward.
