Meghan Markle Launches Smart Works Fashion Line
Today, after weeks of anticipation since the collection was first announced, Meghan Markle has officially unveiled her capsule collection for Smart Works.
Called #TheSmartSet, the collection consists of five pieces – designed by Misha Nonoo, Jigsaw, John Lewis and Marks and Spencer – including a shirt, trousers, a blazer, dress and a tote bag.
The collection is now on sale for two weeks and for every item purchased, one will be donated to Smart Works to “support the Smart Works women by playing a part in their success story – how they look and more importantly, how they feel,” writes Sussex Royal on Instagram. It is predicted that sales from the collection will equip Smart Works with enough clothing to support the women who come through its doors for at least the next 12 months.
Taking to Instagram to celebrate the launch, the Duchess wrote, “Since moving to the UK, it has been deeply important to me to meet with communities and organizations on the ground doing meaningful work and to try to do whatever I can to help them amplify their impact. Today…I am excited to celebrate the launch of another initiative of women supporting women, and communities working together for the greater good. Thank you to the four brands who came together in supporting Smart Works on this special project – placing purpose over profit and community over competition. In convening several companies rather than one, we’ve demonstrated how we can work collectively to empower each other – another layer to this communal success story, that I am so proud to be a part of.”
The women used in the lookbook (which the Duchess shared a teaser of last month) are Andrea, Kate and Zara, each of whom has successfully found work with the help of the organization.
The good news for those of us in North America is that three of the five items can be purchased online and shipped internationally: the Marks & Spencer dress (which comes in black, pink and blue), the John Lewis tote bag (which is available in tan and black) and Misha Nonoo’s white blouse.
To fete the launch of the collection, Meghan visited the John Lewis store on Oxford Street today wearing the Misha Nonoo shirt and Jigsaw trousers for the occasion.
