Meghan Markle Makes Final Appearance as a Senior Royal in Striking Green Dress by Emilia Wickstead
This afternoon in London, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry made their final appearance as working senior royals. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined the Queen, as well as Prince Charles, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and other members of the royal family at the Commonwealth Day service at Westminster Abbey. The event marked the first time the family has been seen together in many months.
In a change of protocol this year, both Meghan and Harry and Kate and William were not part of ‘The Procession of the Queen’ where senior members of the family follow the monarch down the aisle of the Abbey to their seats. Instead, this year, the foursome were seated prior to her arrival.
Over the past few days since landing back in the UK, Meghan has championed no less than 10 British designers on her various outings – and today was no different. The Duchess opted for a striking green midi dress from Emilia Wickstead (who was born in New Zealand but is based in London) for the occasion. The piece featured a beautiful draping detail that began at the neck and continued to her left shoulder and then cascaded down her arm. She accessorized with a Gabriela Hearst bag, her go-to nude Aquazzura pumps and a hat by William Chambers. In a touching display of togetherness, the colour of Meghan’s dress was mimicked by the lining on Harry’s jacket which could be seen as it was hit by the wind during their arrival.
The Duchess also reverted to her classic makeup look of a soft smokey eye, natural base and neural lip for the event. Her hair was swept back into a tight bun to accompany her detailed headpiece.
Kate Middleton was also a picture of elegance in a red coat dress from Catherine Walker, which she has worn previously. The look was teamed with accessories in a complementary hue.
It is undoubtedly an emotional day for the Sussexes as they prepare to bid farewell to their royal life on March 31. More news has emerged in recent days to suggest that some of the work the pair will undertake free from their royal constraints will be in relation to former military servicemen and women. According to reports, the pair plan to set up a charity to aid ex-service personnel in the areas of homelessness and medical care.
Today’s event wraps up a busy week for the pair. Since returning to London both Harry and Meghan have been busy with various events, including stunning appearances at the Endeavour Fund Awards and the Mountbatten Festival of Music, as well as private visits to their various patronages.
