MFW diary: Wardrobe emergency at the Marni outlet
Today I am a true victim of fashion. In between Fendi and D&G there’s a break just long enough to squeeze in a quick visit to the Marni outlet (on every editor’s must-do list this week). You can tell its fashion week from the number of car/drivers parked in front of the unassuming “secret” address. Through two electronic gates, down a long alley, into an apartment complex mixed with bicycles and hanging laundry we tread until we arrive at the back door entrance of Marni mecca.
Once inside, Marni addicts (mostly buyers and editors) wildly scan the racks for a fix of previous season hits. After trying on a few pieces I get dressed only to wedge my brand spanking new tomato red Equipment shirt firmly into the zipper of my faux fur Lanvin/H&M vest. It will not budge!
A flock of editors swoop in to assist with my plight but even with the assistance of Teen Vogue‘s fashion director Gloria Baume, I am still literally stuck inside my clothes and praying that by the time I’m back in my hotel many hours from now I’ll somehow be able to yank both pieces over my head. No matter what⎯it is clear that one, if not both pieces will have to be sacrificed. If I can’t get them off its going be a long week in one look…
