MMVA 2014: 30 photos of all the best dressed action from last night’s red carpet and show
You know the Much Music Video Awards are in town when Queen Street shuts down for Toronto’s biggest music party of the summer. With a standout lineup of international musicians and Kendall and Kylie Jenner flub-less hosting, there was no doubt MMVA 2014 is becoming a must-watch music award show in the industry. Between the pajama-clad Marianas Trench literally rolling onto the red carpet and Ed Sheeran handing out free food, Toronto’s hottest show was bigger and better than ever.
Kendall and Kylie Jenner proved they were the front-runners of last night’s best-dressed list with the two changing into three eye-catching outfits for the two-hour show. However, leave it to the Kardashians Jenners to know how to get heads turning on the red carpet. While the younger of the two siblings was dressed in a bedazzling orange mini dress, Kendall upped Angelina Jolie’s infamous right leg at the 2012 Oscars, shocking the fans in a Fausto Puglisi dress with slits that went well past her thighs, exposing hip bone. Thanks to the beautiful weather and possibly rolls of double-sided tape, there were no wardrobe malfunctions.
Many of Hollywood’s young up and coming stars also showed up on the red carpet. In town to host Annabelle’s launch party last week, Shenae Grimes and Josh Beech proved why they are one of the cutest couples, stepping out in matching outfits complete with black and white platform shoes. Chloe Grace Moretz may have expressed her love for all things Chanel in Cannes, but for last night’s event, the young starlet opted for a black lace sleeveless dress by Marios Schwab that was both fun and elegant for the occasion. While Mad Men’s youngest actress Kiernan Shipka was pretty in pink in a strapless Marni dress, the colour blue seemed to be a trend on the red carpet. The Hunger Games actress Jena Malone showed off her toned physique in a navy crop-top and mini skirt ensemble by Paper London, while Canadian actress Laura Vandervoort worked this season’s pastel trend in a baby blue sequined dress.
The red carpet may have been a must-see, but the main event of the night proved why it was the hottest event in Toronto with talented musicians turning up the heat with their electrifying performances. Winning the International Video of the Year-Group, Imagine Dragons literally lit up the show sending fireworks up into the sky as they sang their hits “Demon” and “Radioactive.” Picking up two coveted awards (Video of the Year and Pop Video of the Year), Hedley got the city singing and dancing to their energetic performance of “Crazy Into You.” While Drake may have been a big winner of the night winning the International Video of The Year by Canadian, the rapper didn’t attend last night’s festivities. It was no surprise to see our May cover girl Lorde bringing home the International Video of the Year Artist. Opting for a colour, albeit still dark, the New Zealand-bred singer/songwriter rocked out “Team” and “Tennis Court” in an eggplant purple suit. Although there was a close call with Ariana Grande‘s performance when she nearly got pulled into the enthusiastic crowd, the young singer closed the show with a bang singing her hot single “Problem.”
