Music Video Premiere: KAPRI’s ‘Deeper’ Will Make You Want to Dance (Exclusive)
Trying to forget it’s only Wednesday? We have the perfect hump day pick-up.
Toronto dance-pop singer, KAPRI, has given us an exclusive look at the music video for her debut single, “Deeper.” With frilled pants, back flips and lots of recognizable Toronto spots (hi Market 707!), it’s exactly what you need to overcome those mid-workweek blues.
The jovial and colourful video reflects KAPRI’s Trinbagonian roots, which she says have a strong influence on her artistry. “Creating this visual was a very personal project for me,” KAPRI told FASHION, “I wanted the video to be a reflection of running themes that have been an integral part of my life and upbringing.”
A singer, songwriter and choreographer, KAPRI’s dance-pop meets house music draws inspiration from strong female icons before her, such as Chaka Khan, Janet Jackson, Cher and Tina Turner. “I wasn’t purposely trying to create an old school house/dance record,” she said of the high-energy track, which has hit #1 on Spotify Canada’s Viral 50, pushing out Justin Bieber’s track “Friends” for the coveted spot, “but in the end that’s what it naturally became. My influences from feel good tracks of the 90’s definitely played a part in it’s bounce.”
And bounce it does.
