Natalie, Drew and other A-list celebrities share their favourite ’90s songs
Ah, the ’90s. The decade that belonged to waifs, grunge, the ‘Internets,’ and—lest we forget—amazing music. So, for those of you who don’t remember much of the ’90s music scene because you were a) not alive, b) alive but too young, or c) too busy living it, we bring you this ’90s hit list of our favourite A-listers’ favourite ’90s tunes (with an ’80s and ’00s song tossed in for good measure).
Natalie Portman
“Smells Like Teen Spirit.”
Drew Barrymore
“Good Vibrations” Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. I have to start moving when that song comes on. It is so happy and sunny. ”
Toni Colette
“‘Losing my Religion’ by R.E.M. I went on tour with R.E.M. Michael [Stipe] is a really good friend of mine. We worked on Velvet Goldmine together.”
Karlie Kloss
“I’m going to have to get my phone. It’s on my Spotify. ‘You Were Meant For Me‘ by Jewel. I just love that song.”
Elizabeth Olsen
“‘Come to my Window’ by Melissa Ethridge. I love the folky stuff.”
Susan Sarandon
“‘Dance Yrself Clean’ by LCD Soundsystem. I usually listen to it in the kitchen—dancing by myself.”
Stephanie Seymour
“I am a country and western girl, so it would be ‘Achy Breaky Heart’ by Miley’s dad. What’s his name? Or Garth Brooks’ ‘Friends in Low Places.”
Jane Fonda
“‘Slow Hand,’ which my boyfriend [Richard Perry] produced. It’s the Pointer Sisters. Oh, but that’s an ’80s song. Well, I was with Ted [Turner] in the ’90s, and we never listened to music.”
Emmanuelle Chiriqui
“‘Real Love,’ by Mary J Blige. I’m just such a hip hop and R&B kid and that was my anthem.”
“Biggie Smalls’ ‘Juicy.’ Are you fresh-squeezed or from concentrate? Fresh. Always.”
