Net-A-Porter launches a Hunger Games: Catching Fire-inspired capsule collection

As far back as the Old Hollywood days, film has inspired fashion and vice versa. At some point in all of our lives, we’ve tried to emulate on screen characters with plaid miniskirts (Cher Horowitz), menswear-inspired layers (Annie Hall), encrusted LBDs (Holly Golightly) and the like. It’s should be no surprise then that e-commerce megabrand Net-A-Porter seized on the popularity of The Hunger Games series and its super stylish heroine Katniss Everdeen with a Catching Fire-inspired capsule collection designed by Trish Summerville. The Capitol Couture collection pairs combat-ready leather pants and jersey jackets with bow and arrow adorned jewellery and a particularly Effie Trinket-worthy fur collared coat.
Cool, right? Well, is it? We can’t decide. Sure, Katniss is quite the motivational figure, not to mention Jennifer Lawrence’s red carpet dominance IRL, but would you wear something so obviously tied to a blockbuster film series? And for $995 for a laser cut leather dress at that? Sure, Hunger Games has captured some zeitgeist, but the type you want to be wearing head to toe?The proof will no doubt be in the speed of the sell-outs, but consider our feelings mixed.
Would you wear Capitol Couture?
