Nevada Teen Challenges Wendy’s on Twitter for One Year’s Worth of Nuggets
Wouldn’t life be a lot better if we were able to win an endless supply of [insert your fave food]? While it would never happen in a million years, one Nevada teen dared to dream it. Meet Carter Wilkerson. Earlier this month, when his nugget supply was running low, he tweeted out to Wendy’s to see what it would take to receive a year’s supply of nuggets.
Yo @Wendys how many retweets for a year of free chicken nuggets?

Little did he know, the American fast food giant responded with the golden number: 18 million. That’s 5 per cent of the social media platform’s active monthly users.
@carterjwm 18 Million

With a response like that, a typical human would usually just chuckle to oneself and move on with their life. But not Wilkerson. This was one challenge he was not bowing out of.
@Wendys Consider it done

“I sent out the tweet as a joke, but then they responded with the outrageous number,” says Wilkerson in a live interview with Reno Gazette-Journal at his high school. “I thought ‘Consider it done’ would be funny among my friend group. Then I put the screen shot up and it started gaining momentum.”
Wendy’s may have found Carter’s response amusing at first, but when his official call-out tweet started gaining traction and garnering 500 K retweets in a day, things started to get interesting.

Honestly, Wendy’s couldn’t believe how much attention this teen was (and still is) getting.

In case you need a refresher, the current user holding the title for the most RTs goes to beloved talk show host Ellen DeGeneres for that famous selfie at the 2014 Oscars: 3.3 million retweets.

According to WBIR, Carter and his family discussed what they would actually do with a year’s supply of free nuggets.
“My wife and I think it’s great if it has a great cause other than eating chicken nuggets for a year,” says Carter’s dad, J Wilkerson. “It would be great to solve a life crisis. But also it’s nice to have some whimsical news.”
Hoping to gain support from the 313 million active Twitter users, he started the #NuggsForCarter movement. The teen and his family are using this overnight fame to help raise funds via a T-shirt and will donate the majority of it to a charity of their choice.
Many Twitter users are wondering if Wendy’s will actually hold their end of the bargain, or, better yet, give it to him regardless of whether he hits the golden number. Because, let’s be real here: You can’t get good free publicity like this.
@hellxxn @carterjwm Honestly has gotten way more RTs than we expected.

@MarkPygas @hellxxn @carterjwm Nah, not afraid. It would honestly be pretty awesome if he got that many.

With the current number sitting at 2.6 million (and counting), it looks like Wilkerson is on his way to getting free nuggets for a whole year. But with a stunt like this, we think he deserves a lifetime supply.
Godspeed, Carter Wilkerson.
