New York: Day six
By Tammy Eckenswiller
Shown: Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2008. Photography by Peter Stigter.
The hot topics at the tents today: Super Tuesday, Lipstick Jungle, and why Rachel Zoe was absent at Halston.
Chloë Sevigny’s collection for Opening Ceremony Rodarte was the most unbelievable show I have seen thus far! One pretty, ethereal dress after another floated down the runway. Delicate tulles and knits were combined to create the most original looks I have seen at the collections so far this week. The hologram-inspired prints were styled with loosely hand knit tights, studded pastel gloves and platform shoes covered in tough spikes. Truly a breathtaking collection.
Karen Walker included lovely brights and floral prints styled smartly with toques, pointed metallic flats and knit bags. Very English and very cool!
Marc by Marc Jacobs was surprisingly referential, which led to the question on everyone’s mind: Is the collection a precursor for Friday’s main collection? I hope not. As much as I liked the ‘80s new wave girlie dresses, skirts and coats, in terms of execution, I’m all ‘80s-ed out! I live in the Lower East Side after all, where skinny jeans and punk dressing is a uniform for the scenesters (yawn). It was more fun to watch Fergie and Rachel Zoe! See photos from this show.
Matthew Williamson did a great take on the eccentric globe-trotter this season. The chiffon printed dresses were my fave. Spotted: Rihanna, Joy Bryant, Brittany Murphy and Leigh Lezark. See photos from this show.
Narciso Rodriguez knocked it out of the park last night, wow! It was sexy, clean, sculptural and divine. Well-constructed dresses defined the body and made a strong statement. My bet is that all the editors and stylists will fight over the leather and feather dress.
I Finished the night at the party for the new Y-3, Yohji Yamamoto store opening. The entire building was covered in a beautiful white tent with giant white orbs surrounding the location. Cheers to that!
