New York: Rock ’n’ roll chic at Diesel

Designer Sophia Kokosalaki’s first collection for Diesel Black Gold was not a far cry from their usual fashion fare – second skin denim, coloured acid washes, cropped motocross jackets and uber sexy black leather mini dresses. What did stand out this time around was the texture mixing of leather and denim seen on various pieces throughout the fall line-up including the show’s first look on model Freya. Another high-octane hit was the bone one-shouldered leather dress; simple, seductive and thoroughly modern. Judging from the denim shirts (chambray still rocks) with leather collars and the wide studded belts that appeared throughout the show, we will need to update our wardrobe with both of these new essentials come fall.  Kudos to Kokosalaki’s use of sheer layering pieces and the Frankenstein-esque stitches on dresses and jersey tops. Frightfully cute.
