New York: September 11
Can’t stop stalking Paris Vogue editor (can’t figure out what her name is!?!) in black silk satin YSL jumpsuit and gorgeous but painful looking black satin pumps (Miu Miu), Fabien Baron with his big big brain: The redesign of Interview mag makes my toes curl with ecstasy!
Oh yes, Vera Wang, well, it’s lovely, lots of interesting layering of contrasting fabrics, combining sporty textures with couture ones. I thought I saw Bette Midler, but I can’t be positive.
Tommy Hilfiger showed at the New York State Theatre at the Lincoln Center and the collection was, as expected, preppy, but the real fun was the celeb watching: Leigh Lezark and Mark Ronson
Phi was quiet compared to last season’s lace leggings and polka-dot zip dresses, but oversized blazers and pink satin camis with contrasting black piping paired with baggy, pleated satin pants that go narrow at the ankle (an emerging trend) looked fresh and sexy.
Okay, I love Zac Posen as much as the next victim, but the silly scene that went on in and out of the tents was a bit much. Hysterical PR folk with clipboards gave out seating assignments after a long line, only to be undermined by other hysterical PR folk with god complexes and no clipboards, asking those of us with seating assignments to line up again! Holt Renfrew’s Barbara Atkin and I suffered the uncomfortable lineup with sheepish looks on our faces. Revenge scenarios ran amok in my head as I shifted uncomfortably in my stilettos. When I finally took my seat I noticed Claire Danes, Jada Pinkett Smith and the Williams sisters…big whoop. Not enough excitement for the pain in my feet. The collection was an odd concoction of ’80s mania, ethnic safari and ruffled romance in cotton candy pink and leopard prints . The models had frosted lipstick, eyeliner and teased pompadour bangs with long straight extensions, like the naughty girls who used to listen to Def Leppard and chase after my older brother when I was a kid. Trying to be objective here but it was not Mr. Posen’s best work.
