Nike Collaborates with Emerging Canadian Designer on Experiments of Style Project
Hot on the heels (or should we say pillowy soles?) of Nike’s recent VaporMax launch comes a new kind of collab.
Stavros Karelis, founder of the trendy London boutique Machine-A, was tasked by the team at Nike to recruit five emerging designers to design a head-to-toe look inspired by the VaporMax sneaker. Cue the Experiments of Style Project.
The winning quintet includes Shizhe He, a designer based out of NYC, three Central St. Martins graduates, Paula Canovas, Wanbing Huand and Liam Johnson, and Azar Rajabi, a Canadian designer who cut her teeth at Prabal Gurung and Damir Doma.
Rajabi, who trained at George Brown in Fashion Techniques and Design, styled her balloon-like windbreaker with long, knotted laces influenced by the VaporMax shoe.
“The sole, a flexible product made of a single, inflatable airbag, inspired my research and material. Pearlized neoprene mesh and texturized vinyl allowed for both flexibility and for a larger silhouette, allowing air to flow freely in and out of the coat,” Rajabi told WWD.
Nike’s new VaporMax style dropped Sunday on Air Max Day. Here’s hoping they restock the sold out styles on their site soon.
