NYFW diary: 5 reasons why we’re crushing over Marc Jacobs’ spring show

Like everyone else in the fashionsphere, we heart Marc. Here’s 5 reasons why we’re crushing over his Spring 2012 show:

1.   OH THE THEATRE, DARLING – From the swish gold lamé curtains, to the models’ Fosse-esque seated poses, to the glowing dance studio set (exposed lightbulbs on wooden beams), it’s clear Marc is the master of the visual feast.

2.   THE SHINY HAPPY PEOPLE – Forget the holidays, according to MJ Spring 2012 is the time to reflect. Models stole the spotlight (literally!) in sequins that resembled fur (possibly the coolest fabric effect we witnessed during New York fashion week) and iridescent gingham and checks.

3.   THE MASH-UPS – Not only are MJ’s playlists killer (the DJ at his after party was spinning a mix so hot it had us ripping up the dance floor long after La Lohan had puffed her last ciggy and made an exit) but his fashion combos are too. The proof? His SS 12-inch-high-heeled clear-vinyl cowboy boots. Oh-so intergalactic cowgirl. Yee-haw!

4.   IT BROUGHT TIERS TO OUR EYES –MJ served up several fringey-tiered metallic skirts with a ’20s flapper vibe. We’re guessing tiers will swing onto the Paris fashion week scene too.

5.   HE PUTS LADIES FIRST – Regardless of the direction MJ takes, season after season he channels the ladylike look in some way. For spring 2012, it’s cropped, embellished jackets, bracelet (or elbow-length) sleeves, below-the-knee hemlines, and retro-chic toppers (love those round collars).
