NYFW Spring 2015: 5 moments from Monday’s shows that blew us away

A Monday during New York Fashion Week isn’t just your regular, run-of-the-mill Monday. It’s rise-and-shine, literally, with sequins, liquid metallics and fistfuls of feathers flying by on the streets en route to, or from, a show. From the hottest trends to the front row flashbulb frenzies, here are five Monday moments that were Insta-glam.
1. Judging by Tommy Hilfiger’s floral-strewn rock n’ roll set, his spring muse is the music festival girl. How fitting that rock royalty Georgia May Jagger opened the show wearing a burgundy striped sateen cape, matching shorts and red metallic knee boots. Throw in a killer soundtrack (Jimi Hendrix, The Stones) and hand painted star tattoo body art and you’ve got fashion magic.
2. Visiting Chanel’s haute couture showroom high above East 57th St. is the stuff dreams are made of. We floated through the latest collection that included laminated lace fabric mélanges, one-of-a-kind buttons, exquisite embellishment that would bring a tear to the most steadfast minimalist (rows of beading, sequins, plastic rosettes and tiny concrete blocks) and neoprene-like dresses that hung on the racks looking so shapely and statuesque it was as if elegant apparitions had slipped inside.
3. When a craft-your-own-bracelet bar appears on an invite (Mulberry’s, specifically) hailing a cab during rush hour to get to a party across town doesn’t seem like a Herculean feat. As expected, the bracelet bar was rammed with partygoers looking to get their tinker on. We snagged a seat and got to work, hammering out our initials, as we waited for the woman of the hour, model Cara Delevingne (fresh off a plane from TIFF) to celebrate her bag collab with the UK-based luxury retailer.
4. Celeb moments during NYFW have been few and far between. Sure, there’s been a Rihanna sighting or two (thanks, Alexander Wang!) but we’re still waiting for the fashion week heavy-hitters to come out and play. In the meantime, there’s always Dennis Basso. His famous front row was a cacophony of characters with a whole lotta cash: Ivana Trump, the Hilton sisters (Nicky and Paris) and Star Jones held air kiss court.
5. Utility looks continue their sartorial streak with a strong show at Rag & Bone. From anoraks to crop tops with texture to knockout neutrals (army green, black, cream) practical makes perfect next spring.
