One Of The Most Coveted Hairstyling Brands Is Coming To Toronto’s Lac + Co.
Since opening in 2015 and 2016, respectively, Tony Pham has made his Toronto salon Lac + Co., and his aesthetics location a few doors down, Lac + Beauty, go-tos for services and destinations that showcase some of the biggest names in the beauty industry. Whether it’s visits from L.A. colourists Johnny Ramirez and Tracey Cunningham, to offering French biochemist Joelle Ciocco’s renowned facial, Lac + Co. and Lac + Beauty are offering above and beyond what most Toronto beauty businesses are. Before introducing the facial to his clients, Pham sent two of his staff members to Paris to train with Ciocco (Marc Jacobs and Carine Roitfeld are clients) for a month. Today, they’re among only eight estheticians in the world, outside of Paris, to perform it.
Then there’s the products he carries, which are often cool, niche brands, many of which are not offered anywhere else in Canada. “It’s kind of like when you go to the little basement at Colette and you think ‘Why don’t we have this here?’,” says Pham about why he focuses on bringing in exclusive lines to his business. If he’s not discovering them in cult Parisian stores, he’s regularly getting tipped off by friends and clients. Included among the vast selection are fragrances from Arquiste (founded by the strikingly handsome and cut Carlos Arquiste), candles by Boy Smells and Lola James Harper (who even did a candle just for the salon), makeup by Kevyn Aucoin, his former protégé Troy Surratt’s Surratt Beauty and hair care by Christophe Robin (Catherine Deneuve’s colourist), Iles Formula (one of the best shampoos EVER), and skincare by Biologique Recherche, Royal Fern as well as Lancer, by the Kardashians’ dermatologist.
And next week, Hair by Sam McKnight is landing. The British editorial hairstylist launched his four styling products (a texture spray, texture mist, dry shampoo and hairspray) just this past June and Lac + Co will be the first place in Canada to carry it. Pham got the chance to meet McKnight backstage at Vivienne Westwood this past October at Paris Fashion Week, where he gave Pham some products to try. But beyond loving the line (“The Lazy Girl Dry Shampoo is so good and smells amazing,” says Pham), getting to come face to face with McKnight as well as carry his products strikes a special chord. “He’s like my icon,” he says. “My legend.”
