Paris: Day six
By Sarah Casselman
Shown: Chanel Fall 2008. Photography by Peter Stigter.
Literally jumped out of bed this morning. Kind of felt like Christmas morning…reality check: it was the Chanel show. Ooh la la…total crush of the cool (Claudia Schiffer), as I grabbed my seat in front of the giant iconic Chanel merry-go-round. Pearls, tweed jackets, fresh blowouts and chain-handled bags surround me–think I am in heaven.
While the collection didn’t wow–how many variations of the iconic pieces can Karl churn out season after season? –I did love the details. Think pink rhinestone trim, lacy gloves, nude and black striped tights, bejewelled brooches perched on hats, and petite hard-case clutches. Of course the cherry on top of this ladylike lineup was seeing Kaiser Karl appear from within the carousel to take his bow.
Wait, is that Colette that I am running past…ah zut! A quick spin around in this amazing store and I am back on the cobble (rhymes with hobble, which I have been reduced to from all of the walking in heels) stones heading to the Tuileries for Sonia Rykiel. Theme of today: bring your daughter to work day. Spotted front row: Anna Wintour and her gorge daughter Bee Shaffer. See photos from this show.
After all the black and heavy layers this week, I loved the light-hearted sequins, painterly prints, tiaras and bowler hats with large glittery swan pins that accented Rykiel’s latest collection. Best trends to try: multicoloured striped sweaters, big jewelled barrettes, coat with bell sleeves, orchid coloured anything, and striped leggings. Models formed a kickline at the end of the show in their bright sparkly dresses.
Spent the rest of the afternoon walking the tents at Premiere Classe–an accessories show for buyers and press also known to me now as Mecca. So many delicious lines of shoes, bags and jewellery, mostly from the European market but some from New York as well. Expect to see some of these gorgeous goodies in our fall issues of FASHION. Can it be that it’s not even spring and now I can’t wait to start shooting our fall pages? Paris equals inspiration…in every way possible. Passed a crepe vendor on my way back to the hotel, everyone here is buzzing about the Nutella crepes, even spotted Carine Roitfeld biting into a sugary one earlier this week…Hmm….maybe tomorrow.
Bonne nuit. Xo
