Prince George poses with Lupo and Kate Middleton is in fuchsia for the royal baby’s first official pictures

Hello, Baby George! The first official pictures of the future King of England were released last night and the reviews are, well, mixed. In breaking with royal protocol, the pictures were taken by Kate Middleton’s father and not a professional. (Before the rumours of an amateur photog started swirling last week, Mario Testino was a favourite to take the pics, as he was behind the couple’s official engagement pictures.) This decision is a clear sign that Will and Kate are going their own way when it comes to raising George—they did, after all, spend his first few weeks at the Middleton family home in Bucklebury and not at Kensington Palace as is typical royal tradition.
We support Will and Kate’s do-it-yourself (ish) intentions, even if it means that the first official pictures of Prince George are slightly fuzzy and not properly lit. The two official photos show the couple outside—presumably somewhere on the Middleton’s sprawling property—with Kate holding George in the same swaddling blanket he wore outside St. Mary’s hospital. Also important: Take a look at Lupo! Now that’s a happy royal dog.
As for her outfit, Kate’s wearing a fuchsia maternity dress by Séraphine which seems ideal for lounging in the garden with a new baby and a few dogs. (The mysterious Golden Retriever behind Kate is Tilly, the Middleton’s dog.) HRH Duchess Kate identified her earrings as her Annoushka pearls, which are framed by Kate’s perfect, wind-machine-ready curls. But, best of all, Will and Kate look relaxed and happy—a sentiment Will confirmed during an interview this week with CNN.
Also, get ready: Kate’s first public appearance is just a few weeks away! While the Duchess may make an unscheduled appearance in Anglesey with Will, our calendars are marked for September 12, when the couple is set to attend the Tusk Conservation Awards. What better way to come back into the public eye than with a red carpet event, right?
