Dior’s Spring 2014 runway, set under a canopy of bright foliage, was meant to depict a beautiful yet eerie garden. Though Raf Simon’s striking collection featured a parade of neons, vibrant floral motifs and shimmering brocade, the makeup was arguably the most eye-catching aspect of the show. Makeup artist Pat McGrath had created variations on the theme of gold brocade. The most dramatic of her trio of looks consisted of golden and pastel blue eyes topped by gilded brows. Believe it or not, with a few tweaks this over-the-top look is very wearable. We’ll show you how to recreate a no-fuss version of this golden girl look.

Once you’re finished your foundation, prime your eyelids with a good eyeshadow primer. That will create an even base for your colour. Using your finger, carefully press a gold eyeshadow (preferably a loose pigment) onto the outer corner of your eyelid. Blend it inwards towards the inner corner of your lid, keeping the mobile eyelid (closest to the lashline) bare. Ideally the colour will be more concentrated at the outer corners of your eye, and lighter towards the inner corners. Then, using a small brush, apply the gold pigment along your bottom lashline, starting about a third of the way from the inner corner of your eye and working your way outwards. To mimic the Dior shape, angle the outer edge downwards slightly.

Next, use a creamy pale blue eyeshadow or draw along the lashline. For ultimate staying powder, mix the shadow with water or Make Up For Ever Aqua Seal.

While you let your eyeshadow set, apply a bright pink blush high on the cheeks, blending thoroughly.

Apply just one coat of a brown mascara to bring out your lashes without detracting from the pastel eyeliner.

To complete the look and get a lighter version of the Dior golden brow, groom and highlight your brows using a tinted brow gel in a gold tone. Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel in Blonde is perfect for the job. Apply it thoroughly, brushing your brows upward as you go.

If you’re feeling dramatic, as an optional final step, you can mimic the Dior brow more accurately by mixing your gold pigment with some clear mascara, and brushing it on either with the mascara wand itself or a small brush.
