SAG Awards 2017: The Best Dressed from the Red Carpet
Not as widely publicized as other major awards shows, the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards stand out because the honors are decided on by the artists themselves (instead of the critics) – nearly 200,000 of them to be exact. While we’re pumped to watch the celebs cheer on their on-screen colleagues, let’s face it, we’re really in it for the fashion. And looking back on the stellar red carpet choices we’ve already seen this season, we expected nothing less at the SAGs.
Stripes, one of the biggest trends of the night, were impossible to miss. Yara Shahidi, Michelle Dockery, Michelle Williams and Naomie Harris really took “practicing their lines” to heart and walked the red carpet in bold, beautiful bands (a major spring runway trend too).
Fiery hues like crimson and fuchsia on Millie Bobby Brown, Annalise Basso, Sophie Turner and Sophia Bush, contrasted with the nudes and neutrals worn by Emily Blunt, Kaley Cuoco, Taraji P. Henson and Maisie Williams.
Sheer black fabrics made a basic red carpet colour feel fresh again. Claire Foy looked regal in an embroidered Valentino, Emma Stone went vampy in Alexander McQueen and Kate Hudson wore a sheer Dior cape over her shoulders.
White has been a huge trend on all the red carpets this season and it was far and away the runaway winner. We saw it tonight on Viola Davis, Natalie Portman, Kirsten Dunst, Meryl Streep, Kerry Washington and Brie Larson who all opted for the creamy hue.
Two special shout outs go to Thandie Newton who bravely pushed the fashion envelope in a surrealist ferris wheel and animal print Schiaparelli gown, and to Nicole Kidman who rocked an ultra fashion forward kelly green Gucci with tiers of sequins and parroted shoulders.
