Scarlett Johansson Impersonates Ivanka Trump on SNL and the Reactions Are Mixed
Just when we thought there weren’t any Trump impersonations SNL hadn’t attempted, Scarlett Johansson went and proved us wrong.
For her fifth time hosting SNL, Johansson appears in a spoof for a fake perfume called Complicit. The OTT commercial features ScarJo dressed in what Ivanka would probably wear to a black tie affair: a glittery dress with her hair pin straight. While the actress’s performance was funny enough on its own, it was the overall art direction that really took the skit to the next level—from the J’Adore Dior-like glam ambience to the slow-motion cinematography. Oh, the stereotypical male voiceover was a nice golden touch, saying “A feminist, an advocate, a champion for women, but, like, how?” and “She’s beautiful. She’s powerful. She’s…Complicit.” (Side note: Searching for the definition of the word “complicit” has unsurprisingly risen since the skit aired on TV.)
The commercial ends with an ad award-worthy tagline: “The fragrance for the woman who could stop all this but won’t.” #golden
Of course, many people in the Twitterverse had someone to say about it.
@nbcsnl Bravo! Your "Complicit" ad is a thing of beauty!

@nbcsnl I've never had a piece so exactly express my feelings #genius

@nbcsnl @lglmoss Pure genius. Proof positive that the only thing Trump has made great again is SNL!

While majority of the people seemed pretty ecstatic, others are getting tired of SNL‘s consistent and tiring jabs at political issues (see: Alec Baldwin’s most recent impersonation).
@nbcsnl used to look forward to SNL each week. Gotten boring and unoriginal. Need new skits. Enough of the constant politics. Update sucks!

@nbcsnl Haven't watched SNL in weeks…took it off of my DVR. When will it stop being about Trump?#cheapway2getviewers

@nbcsnl were any of your skits nonpolitical? It's getting old.
