Unless we’re talking about cosmetic waters (aka essences), H20 doesn’t really have our back. Sure, we like it when it means our skin is hydrated, or when we want that wet hair look. But in those cases it’s on our terms. When it isn’t, it can be a beauty bully; in the form of sweat, tears, humidity or rain, water makes short work of our beauty efforts. It’s why anti-frizz products and long-wear makeup exist. And don’t even get us started on sunscreen. “Reapply after swimming” is the fine print written on every sunscreen bottle ever. That’s because water breaks down sun protection, leaving us exposed after a dip.
But apparently water wants back in our good books. As evidenced with a crop of products designed for use in the shower, and a sunscreen that actually works better after a swim.

Cleansing brush
You may be using your Clarisonic all wrong. Most people don’t put enough cleanser or water on it before they use it, says co-founder Dr. Robb. Which means it doesn’t work as well and causes irritation. His tip: for the best results use it during your shower to get the brush head really wet.

Self-tanner
A self-tanner that doesn’t streak or require awkwardly air drying? We’re listening. St. Tropez Gradual Tan in Shower Lotion delivers buildable colour, goes on like your body wash, only needs three minutes to work its magic, and there’s zero mess.

Moisturizer
There’s a new beauty category you’ve probably heard about: in shower moisturizers. One of the first on the scene was Nivea. The idea makes sense because as any derm will tell you, applying moisturizer while skin is wet is better because it’s more efficiently absorbed. Also, think of the number of IG posts you can scroll though with the time you would have wasted applying body cream.

Sunscreen
And one for the pool! Remember the Blueberry Muffin model of an atom from grade 10 science? Yeah, we’re foggy on that too, but hear us out. You apply Shiseido’s Ultra Sun Protection Lotion or Cream with Wet Force technology and then go for a dip: the positively charged ions in water pair up with the negative ones in the sunscreen formula to create an almost airtight barrier between your skin and the sun. Whoa.
