Snapped by Tommy Ton: “Something new, something borrowed, something used!”
“I remember moments based specifically on outfits, and when I was thinking about what photo would be perfect for this time of year, this image of Ece Sukan immediately came up. It’s from a couple of years ago in Milan, but when an outfit stands out in your mind, I think it stands the test of time. I don’t just want to focus on what’s on trend or what’s in season. It’s more about moments of style, and this was just one of those outfits for me. I love that it’s very white and starchy and just really, really chic. She likes to mix pieces from her own wardrobe with things she finds in her boyfriend’s closet—like this oversized men’s T-shirt paired with a Givenchy skirt, which I’m obsessed with because it’s a very simple, tight pencil skirt, but the way it’s cut in the front changes everything. And that clutch she’s carrying is basically the clutch that everyone has in their closet: that vintage market find. So actually this is kind of like ‘something new, something borrowed, something used!’ It’s interesting to see someone take a piece that’s meant for a man and alter the proportions by rolling up the sleeves, tucking it into a high-waisted skirt or wearing it with heels. In Italy, fashion comes before comfort. It’s a big part of being Italian—she’s not Italian, but it’s something you embrace when you live there.”
