Word: Nug

Meaning: Dear, lover, loved one (Victorian-era slang)

Usage: “Snug as a nug in my love rug,” or maybe something less ridiculous.

You should know it because: I didn’t know the word until yesterday when I was reading up on Victorian slang (I love the Victorians with my whole consumptive heart) and it’s so rare to find a pet name I haven’t heard that I thought I should share it immediately. I didn’t, though. I waited for today, a day when you can use all the pet names in all of the books and not feel too sentimental. Happy Valentine’s Day, my nuggy little readers.
