We Canadians aren’t accustomed to this kind of interest. But when you elect a fit, attractive, second-generation politician like Justin Trudeau and add one fashion plate wife into the mix, attention is what happens.
Only a hard, brittle person could not feel a twinge of pride at watching the hullabaloo surrounding Justin and Sophie Grégoire-Trudeau‘s official visit to Washington. And tonight, when the duo make their State Dinner debut alongside Barack and Michelle Obama and 100+ of their closest, the excitement will reach a fever pitch.
For her part, Grégoire-Trudeau has been repping the home team through her choice of head-to-toe Canadian fashion. Upon arrival yesterday, she was spotted in a grey bespoke suit by Montreal-based Duy Collection and what do you know, a pair of Aldo heels! For last night’s Canada 2020 event (the one where this blessed photo op with The Weeknd happened), she wore a jacket by Ellie Mae Yazmin, a designer set to make her Toronto Fashion Week debut next week (how’s that for your first time around). And today, she was at it again, wearing a vibrant red and fuchsia dress by Lucian Matis. “It’s nice to see someone who is so influential have such a strong support of Canadian manufacturers,” James Lawless, Lucian Matis’s business partner told the Toronto Star.
What a time to be Canadian.
