Spa of the month: Calgary’s Stillwater Spa
Welcome to Spa of the month, a new feature where we track down the top spas across Canada. First up: Beauty director Adriana Ermter checks out the Stillwater Spa (Hyatt Regency Calgary, 700 Centre St. SE, 403-537-4474, calgary.hyatt.com) in her home town of Calgary.
I’m in Zen-mode: I’ve detoxified my pores in the steam room, indulged in fancy soaps and shampoos under the spa’s rain showers, folded myself into a plush bathrobe, lounged in the relaxation room, sipped cucumber-infused water, and scarfed back two homemade granola and raisin bars. Now, I’m face down on the massage table, submitting my boot-camp exhausted muscles to the one-hour Essential Quench massage (from $130). It’s divine. I choose a light-smelling citrus essential oil and my RMT Darcy adds it to the butter cream lotion she’s deftly kneading into my shoulder blades, while I try not to nod off. I’m grateful to her music selection: lyrical, with nary a chirping bird. Later, I slide my ultra-hydrated now noodle-like body off the table and into the manicure/pedicure room for my half-hour pedicure (from $60). My aesthetician Rebecca steeps my feet in a big stone basin in soothing, thankfully hot, water. Next, she rubs a sea-salt scrub all over my feet and up my calves—it feels incredible. Tidying my not-too-long toenails with a file, she cleans up my cuticles and swipes on Butter London nail polish in “Her Royal Highness” dark shiny purple. I admire my toes as I head back to the lounge for another granola bar.
