Spring 2017 Beauty Trend Report: How to Add Romance to Your Look

There were moments of true poetic beauty this season, where hair and makeup was at its most feminine. Spring was in full bloom, literally at Preen by Thornton Bregazzi, where Val Garland adhered dried flowers onto well-dried and moisturized skin with eyelash glue. “There girls are in the woods, woodland fairies that are a bit witchy, they’ve fallen against a tree and into a bed of flowers,” she said backstage. James Kaliardos also stuck pieces of flowers on faces at Rosie Assoulin for a just-rolled-out-of-a-flower-bed feel.

For those who didn’t resort to incorporating actual blooms, there were petal stained cheeks and lips, seen at Creatures of Comfort, Moon Young Hee and Paul Smith, where makeup artist Petros Petrohilos used pink blush on the eyes. The models had an “ethereal nymph like quality with florals and pastels, creating a feminine and soft finish.” Gentle washes and tints brought life to the skin, and the colour felt believable and real rather than meant to transform.

Delicate, airiness extended to hair at Dorhout Mees, where Renaissance-like manes seemed to float around down the runway. Then there was the gasp-inducing beautiful mess that was Rodarte. Odile Gilbert took lace, sequin and tulle left over from the collection and glued it onto clips and headbands that were placed in the hair.
