Suddenly Iris Strubegger
When I saw this Fall 2009 Valentino ad recently, my first thought was, Wow Kristen McMenamy has some great legs. While I’m sure she does, the legs in question actually belong to Austrian model Iris Strubegger, who is suddenly popping up everywhere. Not that we’re the first to notice the resemblance to the grunge era super–the squarish masculine jaw and alpine cheekbones. This past March, Paris Vogue recreated a 1992 cover of Italian Vogue with Strubegger in McMenamy’s place. The current issue of American Vogue has a Patrick Demarchelier editorial on her haircut–out in full force during the Fall 2009 shows. [View a slideshow of Strubegger on the Fall 2009 runways.]
This is Strubegger’s second go at modelling, returning to the game in 2007 after a brief stint in 2002 and 2003. She counts Balenciaga, Givenchy and Valentino among her campaigns, walked dozens of fall runways and, as you can see, is staging a take over of Vogue–and that’s just this year.
