Last night’s Teen Choice Awards saw our favourite stars and starlets collecting surfboards for their various contributions to film, television and music. Show highlights included Harry Styles’ 3-second twerk-out and a special appearance by Miley Cyrus’ engagement ring. Buzz-worthy moments were had in the fashion department as well, with leather, crop tops and cutout dresses making their fair share of appearances on the blue carpet outside L.A.’s Gibson Amphitheatre.
Darren Criss of Glee and Lucy Hale of Pretty Little Liars played co-hosts for the evening. Hale, who collected a surfboard for Choice Summer TV Star, looked perfectly pretty in a mint green silk crop top and floral-embroidered skirt by Houghton. She let the outfit do the talking with her minimal makeup and laidback waves. Hale’s TV co-star Shay Mitchell ditched her signature bold colour palette for a simple yet sexy black and white jumpsuit by Jenni Kayne. In the beauty department the actress paired her new honey-coloured ombré hair with deep smoky eyes.
Selena Gomez, whose three surfboards of the night included one for Choice Female Hottie, looked the part in a daring cutout frock by one of Karlie Kloss’ favourites, Cushnie et Ochs. The newly legal entertainer paired the forest green form-fitting dress with beige Nicholas Kirkwood pumps and earrings by Neil Lane. With her straightened locks and simple cat-eye liner, the look was slightly more grown up for the “Come and Get it” singer. Demi Lovato, who had lots to smile about with her award for Choice Female Artist of the year, channeled punk in a in a black beaded blazer, a white T-shirt, black leather pants and black leather platform boots. Her faux-hawk up-do added to the riotous theme of her ensemble.
Viewers had to do a double take when actresses Lilly Collins and Bella Thorne hit the blue carpet in the same Fausto Puglisi palm-print from the designer’s Resort 2014 collection. Collins paired her Fausto Puglisi hi-low skirt with a black tee by Houghton and pumps by Brian Atwood—and kept her makeup at a minimal, ensuring that her glamorous bouffant got the attention it deserved. Thorne wore a two-piece ensemble by the designer featuring a coral long-sleeved oversized top and blue skirt both in the palm leaf-print. The young beauty topped off her look with black pumps and a black clutch by DVF.
