The 10 skincare products you should be using before you’re 30
No matter what age you are, it’s important to ensure that you’re taking proper care of your skin—yes, even during those invincible teenage years. Most people often think that skincare isn’t something to consider until you reach 21 or so (what are wrinkles?), however many teens may find an extra few steps beneficial to their skin’s health, especially when hormonal changes come into play.
When does our skin typically slow down its regeneration rate or collagen production? What’s the ideal age to start thinking about preventative skincare? There are many variables when it comes to our skin’s health, and many people don’t stop and think about it until it’s too late.
It’s difficult to put an exact number to this, as it’s essentially based on a person-by-person case, but dermatologists tend to agree that collagen production typically begins to slow down around your mid-20s. Not by a lot, but by 1 to 1.5% a year (the rate of decline continues to accelerate as we get older). Starting in your early to mid-20s is when you should begin to focus on preventative skincare. It’s always way easier to prevent than to repair. Health comes first, including your skin’s health!
With the help of our go-to beauty guru Alicia Yoon of Peach & Lily, see below for a step-by-step guide to the skincare regimen to consider abiding by as you get older. If you’ve neglected some of these steps in the past, don’t worry—today can be day one of giving your skin the proper TLC it deserves (trust us, your future self will thank you!)
