The 2017 CAFAs: 20 Pictures From Inside The Glamourous Event
The world needs more Canada. That was the resounding message from the stage at last night’s 2017 Canadian Art and Fashion Awards.
All the more reason to celebrate our home grown talent and give them a platform to stand on the world stage. Sophie Gregoire Trudeau echoed that statement via video message, wearing Hilary MacMillan, and so did Business of Fashion’s editor-in-chief Imran Amed (who picked up the Vanguard Award) and spoke of how a very Canadian sense of inclusivity had contributed to much of his success.
The glamorous gala shone the spotlight on new, exciting talent, those excelling in their fields (Jason Wu, Erdem and Tanya Taylor were all in the room), as well as those making an impact in their communities (David Dixon’s tearful acceptance speech had the whole room reaching for tissues).
It was impossible to miss the true star of the evening, the 95-years-young Iris Apfel who was on hand to accept the International Style Icon Award. True to her signature style in a black and white faux fur vest and rhinestone-studded bangles piled high, she was thrilled to be among Canadians and recognized for doing something she truly loves.
Iris, you’ll forever be an honorary Canadian in our books.
