The Beauty Products We’ll Be Using All Month Long
FASHION‘s beauty team is made up of Beauty Director Lesa Hannah and Beauty Editor Suzie Michael. Each month, they’ll be discussing their favourite new products (whether they’re new-new or just new to them).
Hairstory Undressed Texturizing Spray
What is the equivalent of hitting pan for a spray bottle? Reached final, withering spritz? That recently happened with a bottle of Ouai Wave Spray, which I’ve been using on wet, uncombed hair as per Ashley Streicher’s secret to heat-free waves. In need of a new tonic, I gave Hairstory’s a whirl and used it in the same way. And praise be, my hair dried in perfectly defined yet disheveled waves with zero crunch. Perhaps the fact that I got my hair cut by Wes Sharpton at Hairstory’s invite-only space last month helped? Either way, my hair is set for spring. —L.H
Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Blush
My quest for a matte, semi-sheer, cool-toned, comfortable, long-lasting red lipstick has been a long and often painful journey. By painful I mean, inevitably, one or more of the following: drying, too slippery, messy, too glossy, inexplicably glittery, too opaque, or, worst of all, ends in the revelation that I’ve swiped on a damn tinted lip balm disguised as a lipstick. (Cruel.)
And by long, I mean long. Years of swatching disappointment really takes a toll on a person, you know. So you can absolutely take what I’m about to say very literally: the new Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Blush in the shade “Rouge Captivant,” released at the beginning of March, is the perfect sheer lipstick.
The collection features six shades in total, the brainchild of Chanel’s Global Makeup Artist, Lucia Pica, that can (and should, IMO) be used on both lips and cheeks. The gel texture is silky and a bit watery upon initial application, but then melts into skin with total ease, never slipping and sliding around. At the risk of sounding dramatic, it is the best matte, semi-sheer, cool-toned, comfortable, long-lasting red lipstick I have ever used. —S.M
