The Best Celebrity Hair Changes of 2017
We’re only a couple months into the new year but a few famous millennials have already switched up their looks (read: shorter hairstyles), revealing the changes on Instagram. While we’re not sure if it had anything to do with the many haircuts prior to the holidays (or Emily Ratajkowski‘s faux lob at the Golden Globes), many took it as a cue to head to the nearest salon to reach out to the hair stylists they keep on speed dial. Take Nina Dobrev. The former Vampire Diaries star is known for her lush, long hair on the red carpet, but for her recent event at the premiere of xXx: Return Of Xander Cage, the actress decided to change things up and stepped out in an asymmetrical lob. Selena Gomez also took to Instagram to show off a slightly shorter look courtesy of Marissa Marino, while on set for a top secret project.
For some celebs, a shorter hairstyle just wasn’t enough. While Bella Thorne said buh-bye to her fiery red hair, Kylie Jenner unveiled her latest hairstyle du jour, a blunt blonde bob. Clearly, ‘short hair, don’t care’ is the 2017 beauty mantra for A-list stars. Look below for all the proof:
Olivia Wilde ditched her longer locks for an edgy short bob, dying it platinum blonde while keeping the roots dark.
Katy Perry debuted a blonde bob at pop artist’s Sham Ibrahim’s art exhibition in Palm Springs…
…and then went platinum (in time for her 2017 Grammy performance?).
And she later just ditched the long locks altogether, opting for a much shorter cut post-Orlando Bloom breakup…
…before proceeding to go even shorter with a buzzed cut which many people believed resembled Justin Bieber’s ‘do.
Hair stylist, Riawna Capri, gave her followers the run down of Nina Dobrev’s newest ‘do.
Nina later went even shorter, debuting her latest look at the Vanity Fair Oscars party.
While Selena Gomez’s shorter hairstyle blew our minds before the holidays, we’re obsessed with her latest selfie that features a slightly shorter, textured look.
Though Emily Ratajkowski’s lob may have been a fake one at the Golden Globes, hair stylist Christian Wood did reveal he chopped a few layers to make the look more authentic.
Bella Thorne says good-bye to her fiery-red mane for a mermaid-worthy blue lob.
We’re not entirely sure if Kylie Jenner is just teasing us with one of her many wigs, but we have to say the shorter ‘do looks good on her.
While Ashley Benson went back to her blonde roots…
Emma Roberts swapped her golden locks for #cayennespice red hair.
Then a few months later, added some length to her mane.
Allison Williams said goodbye to her Girls alter ego, Marnie, with a new look.
Cara Delevingne took inspo from her Suicide Squad co-star, Margot Robbie, chopping off her hair and dyeing it platinum.
A little over a month later, she went even shorter, with a light purple pixie.
The pixie didn’t last long, however, with Cara debuting a completely shaved head at the end of April. The bold look is for her upcoming role in Life in a Year.
Kristen Stewart debuted a peroxide buzz cut at the premiere of Personal Shopper. The drastic new ‘do is supposedly for her upcoming role in Underwater.
Also joining the shaved head club? Zoe Kravitz.
January Jones opted for baby bangs, taking inspiration from Jane Birkin and Debbie Harry.
Zayn Malik showed off his new green (!!!) ‘do on Twitter. We wonder if Gigi approves.
Speaking of Gigi…she unveiled a drastic short cut on April 1st which made her look a lot like her mother, Yolanda Hadid. However, a few hours later, she revealed her new look was just an April Fool’s joke.
Kim Kardashian ditched her long, Cher-esque hair for a shorter ‘do…
…and less than 24 hours later, she went back to lob territory.
A month later though, she went back to her long locks, telling her Snapchat followers, “You guys, I am back. Had to get the long hair again.”
Sarah Hyland looked almost unrecognizable when she stepped out with her freshly-dyed platinum blonde hair.
Kylie Jenner also went blonde (again)…
But the look was short-lived, with the makeup mogul going back to dark that same weekend.
That same weekend, Hailey Baldwin went for space cowgirl vibes with glittery blue hair.
Selena Gomez debuted her shortest cut ever — a chin-length bob.
But it turned out to be faux, as the songstress showed off longer locks at We Day in Vancouver one week later.
Katie Holmes went a few inches shorter, rocking a mussed-up, tousled lob at the Tribeca Film Festival.
Always one to take a fashion risk, Halsey debuted a shaved head at the BMI Pop Awards.
Shailene Woodley went blonde for summer…
While Salma Hayek sported a pink wig at Cannes…
She returned to her natural hair colour a couple of days later.
Also rocking a new, bold colour? None other than Lady Gaga (though it appears to be for her role in A Star is Born).
Following her trip to Cannes, Bella Hadid headed to Rome to celebrate the launch of Bulgari’s latest scent, Goldea Roman Night, showing off baby bangs a la Audrey Hepburn.
Coco Rocha made a drastic hair change while in Cannes, first chopping off her bob into a pixie.
A few days later, the face of Balmain hair debuted her new, dark ‘do on the amfAR red carpet.
The iconic blonde is no longer that. The internet freaked out over Paris Hilton’s darker ‘do, sparking the hashtag #brunetteshavefuntoo
Lindsay Lohan looked unrecognizable with her new, sleek lob.
Taraji P. Henson debuted a much shorter ‘do at the end of June, consisting of a curly crop at the top and a buzz cut at the sides and back.
Gigi Hadid has been rocking a darker ‘do a of late, but returned back to her bright blond strands in June.
Troian Bellisario, on the other hand, went darker and shorter for summer.
All eyes were on the Duchess of Cambridge during day one of Wimbledon thanks to Catherine’s new, shorter cut for summer.
Karlie Kloss went “platinum without the album,” showing off her bleached strands at couture week in Paris.
As for Chrissy Teigen? She also went lighter for summer, unveiling her new colour on Twitter.

Bella Hadid showed off her shortest (real) chop ever while strolling in New York City.
Miley Cyrus went back to blonde, filling in her grown-out roots.
Kaia Gerber unveiled a fresh set of bangs on Instagram.
Alicia Keys got orange and pink box braids for summer.

Jenna Dewan, on the other hand, added extensions for long, beachy waves… for now.
Lady Gaga debuted blue and orange hair just before her Joanne World Tour.
Kate Hudson showed off her buzz cut, which is for an upcoming role in the Sia-directed flick, Sister.
Sarah Hyland added inches to her length with extensions and went a dark, “cinnamon chocolate” shade for an upcoming film role.
Zoe Kravitz ditched the blonde and went dark.
Rihanna rocked blue hair for Crop Over.
