The Best Hair Tutorials on Pinterest, Courtesy of Lauren Conrad’s Stylist, Kristin Ess
If you were one of Pinterest’s early adopters, you’ll recall how much you looked forward to The Beauty Department uploading new tutorials. With the lack of pin-worthy content in those early days (we’re talking mediocre photography of DIY projects), seeing The Beauty Department’s informative step-by-step hair and makeup tutorials was a breath of fresh air. Who are the masterminds behind this beauty site? Co-founders Kristin Ess and Amy Nadine.
Given that these two ladies have made our Pinterest boards a little prettier, and happen to be Lauren Conrad’s go-to hairstylist and makeup artist (NBD), creating their own makeup and hair brands seemed like the logical next step in their insane careers. Nadine, who helms the makeup department, launched her first makeup line with Costco in 2015, and now Ess is launching her own namesake hair-care line. Though she told Allure that she had never thought of starting her own brand (come on, really?), she changed her mind when she heard it was going to be with Target—being a Target girl and all, Seeing that Pinterest is a social media platform for those looking for DIY inspo, we’d say the collab with the retail store giant is a no-brainer. While Kristin Ess’s 15-product collection is only available at Target (RIP, Target Canada), we look back at some of her most-shared hair tutorials on Pinterest—from perfect, messy braids to short hairstyles.
