The Crazy Rich Asians Trailer is Here and It’s Super *Extra*
Lush Singaporean landscapes, ornate mansions decked out with gilded furniture and…beaming synchronized swimmers?! The first official trailer for the big-screen adaptation of Kevin Kwan’s international bestseller Crazy Rich Asians just dropped, and we can confirm that it is all sorts of ~*extra*~.
The 2.5 minute clip follows Chinese-American NYU prof Rachel Chu (played by Fresh off the Boat actress, and our lady crush, Constance Wu) as she discovers that her boyfriend Nick Young (Henry Golding) and his family are, well, crazy rich. The trailer also features appearances by Michelle Yeoh (who plays Nick’s disapproving mother Eleanor), Gemma Chan as Astrid Leong, and NY-rapper/actor Awkwafina as Goh Peik Lin.
In terms of wardrobe, the trailer promises some pretty excellent sartorial choices. After all, Kwan *did* tell us that the film’s costume department called in “millions of dollars of jewellery” when we caught up with him last summer. “We want this to be a defining fashion movie in the way The Devil Wears Prada was, and, maybe, hopefully even exceed that,” he said.
Crazy Rich Asians hits theatres August 17—check out the full trailer below:
