Palm Springs meets Ontario wine country in this retro, reno’d, chic boutique motel. Be it a couples’ getaway, a girls wine weekend, or just about any other excuse to escape the city, The June in Prince Edward County offers everything you need (and so much more!) for a delightful, memorable and totally Instagrammable experience. Moteliers April and Sarah have put their heart, soul and sweat into creating a destination that marries their passion for DIY and love of delicious wine, all while embodying the fun and funky draw of the county. Lucky for us, we were treated to a taste (and bite) of what it’s all about, and we’re not going to lie, it’s hard to disagree with their vision.
Follow along our journey through PEC x The June:
April Brown and Sarah Sklash, the Moteliers
These are the women that took the leap to ditch the ordinary life of living and working in Toronto to create something of their own that inspired them.
The Motel Lobby
Mixing prints and botanicals gives this room the Palm Springs vibe we’re talking about!
The Bar
Perfect spot to enjoy a nice glass of wine after your day exploring Prince Edward County. It’s important to mention that although the county is a big place with a lot to do, April and Sarah have made it their mission to help give you the best time you could possibly have. They are experts on the area and are just a text message away for any advice, be it big or small. They call it their Text Message Concierge!
The Motel Lobby
Behind that garage door is a bonfire pit which makes for a lovely spot to enjoy s’mores and a glass of wine.
The Classic Room
Had the pleasure of staying in The Classic Room. Good vibes, indeed. The bathroom came equipped with toiletries from a local apothecary Sunday’s Company.
The Rose Suite
The perfect room for a small group of gals on a bachelorette weekend. Along with this double bed comes a bunk bed and couch and plenty of space to chill out.
The Deluxe Wine Studio
Although The June doesn’t have a restaurant, they do offer up some of the best morning treats around. Whether it be freshly-baked scones, or pressed juices, they’ve got you covered.
Parsons Brewing Company
Just a short ride away (in a car or on your bike), Parsons is the ideal destination for a refreshing drink and some delicious Mexican and Southern Comfort munchies. Our personal favourite was the Fried Bologna Sammich (between the bread was bologna, cheese, potato crisps and jelly).
Parsons Brewing Company Indoors
The coolest thing about this place was that the owners decided to disassemble and move two 150-year-old heritage lumber buildings to then repurpose them for their bottle shop and tap room. They kept the county charm and brought a new-aged twist.
The June BEFORE
Hard to believe it, but the next few images are of what the motel looked like before April and Sarah took it under their wings.
The June BEFORE
It just doesn’t have the same vibe without the pink doors!
The June BEFORE
The pre-existing motel lobby.
The June BEFORE
Interestingly enough, they didn’t ditch everything from the old Motel. Some of the things that were still in perfectly good condition (like the vintage bed frames pictured here) were given new life with a modern take.
