The Latest Up-and-Coming Colour Is…Slime Green?
In 1979, the Nickelodeon show You Can’t Do That On Television introduced the world to slime : a viscous – and frankly, disgusting – neon green substance comprised of applesauce, vanilla pudding, green food colouring and a little bit of oatmeal. Over the years, thanks to movies like 1997’s Flubber, slime has become ingrained in Western culture as a playful kid-friendly substance; a reputation that only solidified after videos of teens manipulating their own home-brewed slime made out of Borax, glue, and food colouring became a brief social media phenomenon in 2016. Now, it seems the goopy green colour has seeped onto our radar as the buzziest hue of the season.
Blake Lively stepped out at a press event for her upcoming movie A Simple Favor wearing a Versace menswear fluorescent suit with a knit sweater in matching shades of chartreuse, Kim Kardashian wore a skintight latex Atsuko Kudo neon green dress to 2 Chainz‘s wedding, plus SZA and Rita Ora have also recently been seen rocking the hue. Even Queen Elizabeth II donned the colour few weeks ago as she shared a laugh with Meghan Markle during a royal visit to Cheshire. The shockingly in-your-face colour can be undoubtedly tricky to pull off, but it’s worth stepping out of your fashion comfort zone because the vibrant hue allows for such fun and original outfits.
If you remain unconvinced that it’s worth it to incorporate glowstick green into your day-to-day wardrobe, look no further. We’ve gathered some of the best slime-inspired street style looks that prove green goop isn’t just for kids.
